Miles Kendrick, an ex-private investigator who is now in a witness protection program, is undergoing treatment for PTSD. He believes he killed his best friend, Andy, and is being helped through the ordeal by Allison, a psychiatrist. She then dies in a bomb-blast and attention turns to a conspiracy involving the discovery of a potentially new drug called "Frost", which is thought to offer assistance to PTSD sufferers. So Miles tries to find out what is really going on while at the same time trying to deal with his issues, including Andy speaking to him all the time. There are good and bad guys all over the place and it is not difficult to become confused by who is doing what as the body count increases - and not a policeman to be seen anywhere! All does move forward at "breakneck" speed, however, as the book cover suggests. And there is a twist. Abbott has taken a lot of licence in creating the story, but he does highlight a rather important medical issue in the process. The book was just too much of an "over the top" chase for my liking though.
